Child Protection

As people who work with children at Swamp Mennonite Church, we desire to create an environment of safety and nurturing for them so that they:

  • feel free to act like kids
  • can expect that they will not be harmed
  • will find healing if they have been harmed

We seek to create a place where:

  • we cultivate healthy attitudes and relationships with our children and
  • we teach them to begin to own their faith in Christ
  • we all learn to approach life as children, with curiosity and openness

In order to facilitate this, we have developed a Child/Youth Protection Policy and a registration form that we ask parents to fill out every year.

Click here to find these forms.

We also offer a yearly training for all those who work with children at Swamp.

Please note- Pennsylvania requires churches to have a Child Abuse Clearance and Pennsylvania State Police Background Check on file for every volunteer, over the age of 18, who works with children. These must have been completed within the past 60 months (5 years).

In compliance with state law, we require all volunteers who work with children to submit up-to-date clearances to be retained in the church office.

If you need to complete new clearances, be sure to do both:

1) A Child Abuse Clearance can be completed through the Child Welfare Information Solution self-service portal – HERE

2) A Pennsylvania State Police Background Check can be completed through the Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History website (PLEASE print certificate, not the receipt) – HERE

If you need assistance with any of these, please let Pastor Nathan or Pastor Tracy know.
